Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 4 April 2013, metal and steel manufacturer Aubert & Duval announced a restructuring of its unit of Firminy (Loire) with 74 job cuts on a total workforce of 326 employees. The site has introduced short-time work since 2011 and the limited activity is considered structural by the management because of the competition in the sector especially from China. The job cuts are to be implemented by 2014. Employee representatives asked the management to avoid forced dismissals.
