Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 4 May 2013, freight transport company Loheac announced to its works council plans to cut 78 jobs. As reported, the decision results from the closure of the fuel refinery of Petroplus, but unions refer to the lack of efficient management in previous years. According to the plan, jobs will be cut in several subsidiaries: 36 redundancies at Alca (container activity), 30 in Sterna (tanks activity), 7 in Couronnais’ maintenance centre and 5 in Loheac SAS (administrative services). The timeline of the restructuring is not yet available.
