Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
A manufacturer of wiring harness and other electronic components Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze (SE Bordnetze) announced it plans to cut 200 jobs at the unit in Gorzów Wielkopolski in 2013. As announced, the dismissals are associated with the economic crisis. The local trade unions are concerned that the level of redundancies could be higher than officially announced. They estimate that dismissals could affect up to 700 employees. SE Bordnetze has been operating in Gorzów Wielkopolski since 1992. The factory employs around 2,700 people.
