Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Multinational insurance company Aviva is to cut 2,000 jobs in Europe and Asia over the next six months. Till now there is no specific information about which countries are affected by the restructuring plan. However, taking into consideration Aviva’s strong presence in the UK, a considerable number of up to 1,000 jobs will be lost there. At the end of 2011, Aviva announced a restructuring plan affecting 2,500 jobs in Europe (see here), which is still ongoing. The newly announced job cuts come on top of this plan. For the most recent restructurings announced by Aviva see Aviva-UK2012 and Aviva-IRL2012.
