Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The US automotive supplier TRW Automotive has announced the closure of a plant in Dijon with 148 jobs cuts in the next months (September - October). The site is specialized in the manufacture of valves and sensors. The management explains its decision by a weak competiveness of the plant that realized losses. Furthermore the recent acceleration of technical changes forced TRW to adapt its production. The move to electric system of directions has for consequences excess production capacities of previous generation products in the European sites. According the management, by its limited size, the site is not suitable to obtain production of new generation of products. The union CGT stresses that the site was already a pioneer in production of electric sensors and explains the decision by a delocalization policy from France to Poland and the Czech Republic.
