Description
On 20 March 2013, the management of Veolia Water France has announced a restructuring plan with 1,500 job cuts in its water activities in France. The company has open negotiations with unions on a global agreement in order to adapt the structure of its jobs and its staff. Management stresses it would “avoid a forced departure”. The water division of Veolia is affected by the financial crisis that forced some municipalities and local authorities to renegotiate water service concession or to take over this activity on their own. The management has announced its intention to negotiate with employees’ representatives in the next three months to avoid direct dismissals.
Updated, 28-08-2014: Finally the social partners have signed a social plan in July 2014 that was approved by the ministry of Labour on 14 August. The plan affects 2,225 jobs: including 1,417 internal job transfers (that could end by dismissal if the offer is refused by employees) and 808 voluntary departures. If by mid-2015 social partners conclude that there are not enough volunteers, then the company would start to dismiss employees.
