Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
GE (General Electric) Energy in France has announced a restructuring plan with 115 jobs cuts in its plant in Belfort, specialized in the manufacture of turbine for gas power station. The restructuring will affect 6% of the workforce, mainly engineers and managers (80 positions) and 35 technicians and employees. As the economic crisis decreased the demand of electricity, the main producers stopped their power station functioning with gas or coal or reduced their activities. The impact on GE Energy is that the company has seen its order book declining with a raise of its fixed cost. The management will propose voluntary departure and internal mobility to avoid direct dismissals.
