Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Panasonic, a Japan-based manufacturer of TV sets, has announced that it will release 125 workers at its Pilsen site by the end of April 2013. The firm currently employs 1,400 people.
The redundancies will affect especially operators working on assembly lines, but also other technical professions. Dismissals were justified by “workforce optimization”. In January 2013, the unemployment rate in the region jumped up to 6.6 percent from 5.9 percent in December 2012.
