Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Mariella Burani, an Italian fashion company, is to close its plant located at Cavriago (in the province of Reggio Emilia), with the consequent loss of 132 jobs.
The company was declared bankrupt in June 2012. According to trade union sources, the workers could benefit of Wage Guarantee Fund schemes until June 2013.
In February 2013 the Court of Milan had convicted Walter and Giovanni Burani, owner of the Mariella Burani fashion group, to 6 years of prison for bankruptcy fraud.
