Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Autogrill, the world’s biggest operator of travel dining, catering and retail facilities for travelers, is to cut 140 jobs in its Italian outlets.
According to the company, the job cuts are mainly due to the negative effects of the economic crisis on the sector. In order to avoid the lay-offs, the company offers to the redundant workers to move to another Autogrill outlet (up to 100km away from their current post) or to accept a part-time contract. The trade unions have criticized heavily the company’s unilateral decision.
In Italy, Autogrill has around 11,000 employees, and around 63,000 worldwide.
