Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Benetton, an Italian-based global fashion brand, is to cut 450 jobs, of which 228 in its Italian sites located at Ponzano Veneto and Castrette di Villorba (in the province of Treviso). According to the plan, the Italian retail chain will be strengthened with 280 recruitments. Moreover, the company has announced that contracts with 135 Italian suppliers will be not renewed.
The trade unions reacted to the company’s decision by requesting the involvement of local authorities in order to avoid the job cuts in the production sites.
In Italy Benetton group has around 2,500 employees.
