Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 30 January 2013, the management of the manufacturer sanitary paper SCA has announced a restructuring plan involving 162 job cuts, including 49 in its plant of Kunheim (Haut-Rhin).
The company that belongs to the US firm Georgia Pacific since summer 2012, explained the need to eliminate 'duplications' of job roles as a result of the acquisition.
According to the union, there will be 100 forced dismissals. The group will start its information and consultation in March and jobs will be cut around September. Unions and employees’ representatives will try to reduce the amount of forcer dismissals.Â
