Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 28 January 2013, the management of the furniture manufacturer “Manufacture vosgienne de meuble” has announced a restructuring plan involving 120 dismissals, out of 378 employees.
The company, part of group Parisot, produces furniture for bathroom and kitchen. It was placed in receivership on 7 November 2012 with an observatory period of six months. The unions have expressed their concern about a future closure of the site. The job cuts take place in a department where Parisot group had liquidated a subsidiary of (Nevelt) in January 2012 (see here) and in 2011 another furniture manufacturer (ECB) closed its site with 122 employees.
