Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Slovenske železnice (Slovenian Railways) have been a big loss maker for years and as a result of the cost-cutting measures, 450 more employees will be released.
Economic crisis has further deteriorated the situation in the company. As a consequence, the company has been reducing the number of employees since 2010 (see here). At the moment, the number of employees stands at 8150 and will be reduced to 7700 by June 2013.
Many of the proposed job cuts concern senior employees, as the number of managers will be reduced. In addition, the employees will undergo salary reduction by 10-40%.
