Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on November 29, 2012, General Motors subsidiary Opel will cut 300 jobs in Bochum. This is due to a cost savings programme. However, the works council announced to fight this decision.
The job cuts affect the gear production. In total, Opel employs 3,000 people in Bochum. Since the company announced plans to discontinue the Zafira production in 2016 in Bochum, the site will be shut down in 2016.
Opel had cut 500 management positions in Bochum and Rüsselsheim (see Factsheet 21599) and announced the part closure of its research centre in Kastel (see Factsheet 22291) earlier this year.
