Description
GGP Sweden, manufacturer of lawn mowers in Sweden, has announced they will let go of 175 employees as the current production is moved to GGP’s facilities in Campigo, Italy. The reason for centralising the production is failing profitability, overcapacity and weakening market demand.
All of the production will be moved to the Italian site, which is currently working at half capacity. The Swedish sales office, the central warehouse for the Nordic market and other services, with 66 employees, will remain in Tranås.
Local union chairman Mikael Stenquist states that the decision will have a negative impact on the region, which is already under pressure from a current surge in redundancies. The advanced age of many of GGP’s employees means that they will have a hard time finding new jobs, it is reported.
GGP Sweden is a subsidiary of GGP group, manufacturer of lawn mowers and powered garden equipment. Earlier employment adjustments by GGP Sweden are covered in fact sheet 444.
As of December 2012 there is no information about when the delocalisation will begin or when it will be implemented by.
