Description
Tata Steel has announced plans to cut 886 jobs across the UK. 584 jobs will go in South Wales, 155 in Yorkshire, 117 in the West Midlands and 30 at Teeside.
Most of the cuts in South Wales will affect managerial and administrative positions in Port Talbot, while sites in Crosskeys and Blaenau Gwent will close. Shift levels at the company's Rotherham and Hartlepool plants will be reduced in order to match production to lower demand for bar products and pipelines.
The company said it aimed at reducing the impact of the restructuring on staff and implementing most of the cuts through voluntary redundancies.
The company will also create 120 jobs at a new hot strip rolling mill at Llanwern.
