Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The multinational company Bridgestone has announced its intention to apply for a Redundancy Procedure affecting 442 employees in Spain. The measure will affect to 184 employees of the plant in Basauri (Basque Country); 32 employees of the plant in Usansolo (Basque Country); 109 employees of the plant in Burgos (Castilla y León); and 117 employees of the plant in Puente de San Miguel (Cantabria).
The measure is currently being negotiated between the company, the workers committee and the trade unions. The unions have proposed an alternative, but they are also preparing for a 9-day strike if the dismissals go ahead. Workers’ assemblies are planned at all 4 sites, where any decisions concerning protest actions will be taken.
