Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
TRW Automotive, a multinational manufacturer of steering systems for carmakers, is to cut up to 105 jobs (out of 470) at its plant located in Livorno.
This is not the first time the company is reducing is workforce in recent years, as it used to employ up to 700 workers 5 years ago. The company and the trade unions have planned some meetings in order to find measures aimed at reducing the negative effects of the job cuts.
Updated, 23/12/2013: After negotiations, on 21 November 2012, TRW announced its intention to avoid layoffs by resorting to a job-security agreement. The agreement, lasting until 31 December 2013, has been renewed for another year.
