On 14 November 2012, the management of the paper-bag manufacturer Mondi announced the closure of its Saint-Jean-d’Illiac plant (Gironde) with 104 consequent job losses.
The group Mondi has 26,000 employees worldwide. It had bought this site from the group Smurfit-Kappa in 2010. The Austro-South African company employs around 26,000 in hundreds of plants, with a strong presence in Germany, Italy, Austria, Poland, Slovakia, among other countries.
