Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Hypo Alpe Adria Bank SpA is to cut 118 out of 403 jobs in its Italian branches. The dismissals are part of the 2012-2014 restructuring plan.
The management states that the structural interventions aim to pave the way towards re-privatization and to make the bank’s retail department more competitive, while at the same time reducing costs.
The company and the trade unions have started negotiations with in order to discuss the details of the new business plan, and to avoid redundancies. It is reported that the unions will propose solidarity contracts for the affected workers.
