Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Abbott Ireland has announced that it is looking for up to 180 voluntary redundancies out of its 310 workforce at Abbott Nutrition in Sligo. It is reported that some jobs could be lost before Christmas.
The redundancies have been attributed to a “streamlining” of Abbott's global nutrition business. The Sligo plant is the oldest Abbott plant in the Republic and one of three operated by the multinational in the region.
The company has said that it hopes that the job losses can be secured through a voluntary redundancy programme, adding that it would conduct a 30-day consultation phase with workers.
