Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The National Army of the Czech Republic is to dismiss 1,500 people in 2013 as a result of cost-cutting measures. The job cuts will affect mainly high-rank officers. According to the restructuring plan, over 500 military jobs and 1,000 civil jobs will be cut.
The army also intends to continue its redundancy plan and abolish the Joint Force Command in Olomouc and Support Forces headquarters in Stará Boleslav. Overall, by the end of 2014 the military is due to be decreased by 1,900 posts.
The measure is the most fundamental change since 2005 when the Czech Republic established the professional army. Currently, the Czech army employs 23,681 soldiers and 8,000 civil employees.
