Description
As announced on October 18, 2012 German solar photovoltaic modules producer SMA Solar will cut 750 jobs in Germany. 350 regular positions will be cut, while the company will also make 400 temporary agency workers redundant. This is due to declining turnover.
Worldwide, 450 workers and an additional 600 temporary agency workers will be affected. SMA solar suffers from shrinking demand and cutbacks in public subsidies for solar energy.
The most affected site is Niesetal, Hesse. SMA Solar aims to avoid forced redundancies and announced talks with the works' council.
