Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Rörvik Timber in Husqvarna, a firm that operates in the timber sector, has announced that it is to cut 50 jobs at different units in the southern part of Sweden. This includes 12 temporary workers at the mills in Boxholm, Myresjö, Rörvik, Sandsjöfors and Tranemo. As of October 2012, it is not yet known when the job losses will be implemented by.
It is reported that the reason behind this measure is the weak European market, combined with the fact that the price of sawmill products has fallen considerably whereas the price of raw material has not decreased correspondingly, making sales less profitable.
By the end of 2011, Rörvik Timber had 347 employees.
