Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Hotel and leisure group Pierre et Vacances announced that it would cut up to 195 positions by 2013 in Europe. The group gave no details on the distribution of job cuts in the countries it operates in (France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Netherlands), but the main job losses are expected to be in France.
The group employs 5,200 employees in France out of a total workforce of 7,500 in the EU. As other major tourism companies, the group is reported to have to take action in order to respond to a decrease in its sales. The company's management will open a voluntary departure plan and propose support for external outplacement.
