Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Metal manufacturer Rautaruukki has announced up to 250 redundancies in the departments of metal production, as well as marketing and communications. The company has started negotiations with employee representatives on the cuts.
Those most affected by Rautaruukki's redundancies are the plants in Hämeenlinna and Raahe, which belong to Ruukki Metals steel-producing company. There, 160 production and 70 office personnel may be dismissed. In addition, up to 20 positions may be lost in marketing and communications in different locations (Finland and other countries). The company wants to reach annual savings of 10 million Euro.
