Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
SSAB, a steel manufacturer of hot and cold reduced strip, has announced that 350 employees will be made redundant in the Swedish operations. Additionally, 100 that are employed on temporary contracts will be dismissed. The measure affects approximately 200 employees in Borlänge, 150 in Oxelösund, and 100 in Luleå. By the end of 2011 SSAB employed approximately 8800 in Sweden.
The downsizing is part of the efficiency program within SSAB EMEA aimed at increasing flexibility throughout the entire business operation. As of October 2012 it is not yet known when the job losses will be implemented by.
