Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 10 October 2012, the Commercial Court of Lille (Nod) decided on the liquidation of IT and high-tech products retailer Surcouf, affecting 379 employees. Placed in administration since February, this subsidiary of the group Mulliez failed to find a buyer.
The Court has decided the liquidation and allowed the management to pursue its activities until 30 November 2012. Hugues Mulliez had bought Surcouf from the luxury group PPR in 2009. After recording big losses since 2010, a restructuring was claimed to be necessary, which resulted in the closure of two shops and a social plan affecting 200 jobs.
