Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The construction company Corsan-Corviam is in the process of applying for a Redundancy Procedure affecting 163 employees (12, 63% of its workforce).
As a consequence, the workers have called for an indefinite strike, which will start on the 3rd of October 2012. According to the unions, the company is offering compensation equal to 25 days per year worked. It is reported that the workers’ unions demand higher compensation because of the profit recorded by the company in the last years. The unions claim that the restructuring is taking place as a result of the recent labour reform in Spain.
Currently, the company and the unions are negotiating the measures.
