Description
Uralvagonzavod, the Russian producer of tanks, rail cars and machinery products, plans to open a plant in Latvia and employ at least 100 workers.
The new plant will produce freight rail cars; the estimated capacity of the plant is about 2000 wagons and rail transporters per year.Â
The new plant is expected to be opened in March 2013 in Jelgava at the premises of the former bus plant Rigas Autobusu Fabrika. It is to be space-efficient and automated. The production of the plant will be sold in Russia and the neighbouring markets.
Jelgava is a city located approximately 50 km from Riga, capital city of Latvia. The general director of UralVagonZavod Oleg Siyenko said that the cooperation with the local government helped to make the decision on the site location.
