Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Slovenian company Kovinoplastika Lož from Stari trg pri Ložu in Notranjsko-Kraška region is in the process of internal restructuring in which 150 of the current 830 employees will lose their jobs.
The company is a manufacturer of the buildings fittings and components for the automobile industry, as well as the hobby and Do-it-Yourself products.
Over the last years, Kovinoplastika have already reduced employment from 1,000 to the current 830.
The end date of the restructuring has not been specified.
UPDATE: 22-11-2012: According to the latest media reports, the number of redundancies will increase to 230, as by the end of February 2013 the total number of employees will be reduced to 600. So far, 191 employees have been dismissed. The dismissals are being carried out in an effort to further reduce costs.
