Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 29 August 2012, the management of supermarket network Carrefour has announced to its Central works council to cut between 500 to 600 jobs. The cuts will affect administrative staff. Carrefour currently employs 7,000 administrative staff in France.
The management will open a voluntary departure plan in the coming months after completing the information and consultation process with employee representatives. The new CEO of Carrefour has also given some details of its strategy to increase the competitiveness of the group.
UPDATE 17-10_2012. On 12 October 2012, the management gave details to its Group Works Council on the voluntary departure plan that will affected 553 positions, including 450 managers. According to the union FO, the group has cut 10.000 positions in the last three years.
