Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The company Solaria, specializing in the manufacture of solar panels, has applied for a Redundancy Procedure affecting 290 employees of its plant located in Ciudad Real (Castilla la Mancha). The company has currently opened a negotiation process with the unions aiming to discuss the measure. According to the company, the redundancy is intended to adapt costs and resources to the activity of the sector.
UPDATE 28/09/2012: The company has agreed with the unions to apply for a Redundancy Procedure affecting 201 employees of its plant located in Ciudad Real rather than 290 (56% of its entire workforce). Dismissed workers will receive compensation by dismissal equal to 26 days per year worked. The measure has been agreed with the Works Council.
