Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 28 August 2012 the steel producer Dunaferr has announced plans to dismiss around 800 employees, including 84 employees from the PR section, fire and safety dispatching, and interpreting and translation services.
256 employees will be dismissed by 1 December 2012, due to the closure of one of the company's sites, Lőrinci Hengermalom. The cuts will affect 460 white-collar workers, whose dismissal has already been announced as a part of the company's internal restructuring programme.
The company intends to follow the Labour Code regulations and to provide possibilities for early retirements and voluntary severance payment.
