Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German telephone manufacturer Gigaset had announced to cut 320 jobs in Germany. The affected sites are the Munich headquarters with a job reduction of 50 and a manufacturing plant in Bocholt with a job reduction of 270.
It is reported that the job cuts are due to the economic crisis in Europe and the severe financial losses the company has experienced. A timeline for the restructuring has yet to be announced.
UPDATE 08/10/2012: In October 2012, Gigaset stated that they have agreed with the Works Council 279 job cuts. Three quarters of the dismissals will affect the plant in Bocholt and the rest the headquarter in Munich.
