Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The management of Trevest, an automotive supplier specialised in textiles and car seats, has announced to cut 85 positions out of a total workforce of 260 employees by November 2012. The company justified this decision stating that it had to make face to the loss of the market of the new Peugeot 308.
The unions CGT and CFDT criticized that Trevest had received €55 million from the state funds "Fonds de modernisation des équipementiers automobiles" (Mondernisation funds of automotives' suppliers). In July 2012 the negotiations with unions were still ongoing in the framework of the information and consultation process.
