Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The new restructuring programme of German energy provider RWE ('RWE 2015') will involve the cutting of 2,400 positions, according to a company press release. These cuts will come on top of previously announced redundancies. A timeline for the restructuring has yet to be announced.
Previous media reports had stated that 'RWE 2015' will comprise the selling of subsidiaries (which will reduce the RWE workforce of 72,000 by 5,000), the cutting of 1,000 sales jobs in the UK, of 1,000 positions in eastern Europe and of 1,000 power plant jobs in Germany. There are also reports of over 1,000 low-skilled jobs being relocated to eastern Europe.
Trade Unions fear that up to 5,000 jobs could be lost.
