Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Asko, a global manufacturer of domestic appliances, has announced plans to cut their workforce in Jung, Sweden, by 430 employees.
Only 50 employees at the R&D and branding units will remain at the site in Jung. In 2010, Asko was acquired by the Gorenje Group from Slovenia. Now, as a result of the acquisition, the production of washing machines, dryers and dishwashers will be offshored from Asko in Jung to Slovenia for economic reasons.
The exact timeline for the restructuring has not been announced; the offshoring will begin in 2013.
