Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 27 June 2012, the car manufacturer Renault announced a restructuring plan of its site of Flins (Yvelines), which will result in the loss of 300 jobs by 2014. Currently, the plant employs a total of 3,100 people. Redundancies will mostly affect administrative staff, cleaning and care services.
The management aims to avoid forced dismissals and will implement early retirements and internal mobility. The aim is to increase the competitiveness of the plant that will produce two new cars in the coming months, the electric car Zoé and the Clio IV.
