Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 30 May 2012, the local trade unions were informed of planned collective dismissals in the factory of MAN Truck & Bus Poland in Starachowice. The company is to dismiss 240 of 1,740 employees. The redundancies, which are to be implemented from July 2012, will affect only production workers. Administrative staff will not be affected by the dismissals.
The main reason for the company's decision is said to be a decrease in the number of orders. The trade unions are to negotiate the scope and the conditions of the dismissals.
MAN has been operating in Poland since 1996. The new production line at the site in Starachowice was opened in August 2011 and then the company hired 200 people (see fact sheet 18433).
