Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Riello, an Italian company that produces heating and water heating systems, is to cut 178 jobs (out of 242) at its plant located in Morbegno, in the province of Sondrio.
The reductions follow the company's decision to delocalise the production of burners for heating systems to Poland, where Riello has a plant at Torun, with around 500 employees. According to the company, the decision to delocalise is mainly due to the need to reduce the labour costs and to strengthen Riello's position in different markets.
The trade unions have reacted to the company's decision with organized actions and request for negotiations in order to find measures to reduce the negative effect of delocalisation.
The timeline for the restructuring is yet to be announced.
