Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Electrabel, a supplier in electricity and gas and a member of a French company GDF Suez, annouced its intention to close two power stations in France. As a result 132 jobs will be lost, most of them (105 jobs) in Ruien (Flanders).
It is reported that the union leaders are skeptical about the closure plans, since the company does not have financial difficulties. According to the them, both power stations are old and if the company wants to keep them operational, the management should make substantial investments. They expect the company would propose some solutions to the workers affected by the restructuring.
