Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On the 2 April 2012, the City Council of Rotterdam announced that it will cut more jobs than it previously planned in mid-2011 (see previous announcement here). The number of redundancies has increased to 2,450 from 2,000 previously announced. The City Council of Rotterdam employs a total of 12,200 people.
Reportedly, the restructuring is driven by the need to cut costs and reduce the budget. Moreover, it is stated that there are greater possibilities to increase efficiency.
