Description
On 14 May 2012, British supermarket chain Tesco announced plans to cut 980 jobs in 420 units across Poland. The company did not sign the bilateral agreement with the local trade unions - a consensus on the allowance's level proposed by the unions was not achieved thus far. The dismissals are part of larger reorganization in Tesco.
However, Tesco also plans to create 1,700 new jobs (mainly in new units) across Poland by the end of 2012. The company representatives informed that many of the dismissed employees are to be proposed new job offers. Eventually, dispite the redundancies, the total employment in Tesco is expected to increase by 720 jobs.
Tesco has been operating in Poland since 1992 and currently owns 420 stores and 27 petrol stations in the country and employs about 29,000 people.
