Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
British Airways has announced plans to cut up to 570 Gatwick jobs in a bid to cut costs and enhance its competitiveness. The losses include 170 customer service and management support staff and 400 ramp worker roles. The latter are likely to be outsourced and the company hopes to offer the 400 affected staff jobs with a new external supplier.
The company has entered consultations with trade unions who are displeased with the announcement. So far, there is no timeline for the restructuring.
