Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 19 April 2012, IT and high-tech products retailer Surcouf announced to cut 200 positionsdue to the closure of two of its six shops in France (in Bordeaux and Paris) and a logistics site. Surcouf has been placed in receivership since 29 February 2012 with a six-month observation period ('periode d'observation').
The restructuring includes a recovery plan, which was approved on 18 April by the commercial court of Lille. The turnover of the company decreased from 270 million Euro in 2009-2010 to 160 millions Euro in 2010-2011 due to supplying difficulties.
