Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Tere, an Estonian manufacturer of dairy products, has announced dismissal of 109 employees at its sites in Põlva, Viljandi and Tallinn.
The job losses are set out in the restructuring plan of the company and the intention is to move manufacturing away from the capital, Tallinn. Dismissals started already in the beginning of May when the manufacturing directors and senior specialists in Viljandi and Põlva units were made redundant. Most of the jobs will be cut from June to August. Dismissals will affect three out of four units: 44 jobs will be lost in Põlva, 11 in Viljandi and 54 in Tallinn.
The company has confirmed that this restructuring plan will not affect farmers who are selling milk to the dairy manufacturer.
