Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Japanese electronics and entertainment group Sony has announced that it is to trim its global workforce and cut up to 10,000 jobs. Half of the jobs will be cut in the television division of the company. Another 5,000 employees will leave Sony but might retain their jobs, as they are working for two production units that Sony sold to other companies.
Since 2005, Sony enforced two other substantial rounds of staff reductions - the first in 2005 resulting in 10,000 job cuts and a second wave of restructuring in 2008 with 16,000 job cuts.
