Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Estonian Tax and Customs Board has announced the loss of 120 jobs across Estonia.
The job losses are due to the fact that the company will close the regional centres in Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu and Jõhvi by 1 June 2012 in an effort to centralise regional management and cut personnel costs. As a result, the management is to centralise activities in the capital Tallinn and only county-based service points will remain open. The remaining employees in the counties will have their responsibilities increased.
Job cuts will be carried out in two phases. About 66 support service positions will be cut by the 1 April. The remaining 140 positions will be cut by 1 June. However, it was reported that part of the positions lost are currently vacant. As a result, the total number of real job loss stands at 120. Job cuts affect mainly managerial positions.
